Your best asset: Your Energy Levels
We all know how precious time is, especially when it comes to looking after our health and wellbeing. With the never-ending list of responsibilities, emails, and our busy social life, it often feels like we're racing against the clock. But what if I told you that the key to making the most of your limited time isn't just about managing your minutes? It's about managing your energy.
If a client comes to me to help them find time for exercising, I don't pull out my time-management tools, I ask them about how they spend their days and how it makes them feel. I ask them what makes their energy fluctuate.
Here's how you can do it too
Your energy mirrors how you have spent your time, but rarely do we look at it with a bit of distance.
Writing it down really helps change things more easily, so I invite you to take on a simple challenge to understand where your energy flows.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it...
Each day this week, take a moment to reflect and write down two things: one that drained your energy (energy out) and one that replenished it (energy in). Think of it like a battery — what's depleting it and what's recharging it.
Energy Out
Here, you'll list the things that left you feeling tired, stressed, or drained. It could be a challenging lecture, too much screen time, a stressful conversation, or even a thought that never leaves you.
This is not about self-blame; it's about awareness. Simply start acknowledging what takes away your energy.
Energy In
Here, write down the activities that boost your spirits and leave you feeling recharged. These could be moments when you exercised, spent time with a friend, meditated, napped, or engaged in a hobby you love.
Give it a Shot!
Commit to doing this exercise every day, at the end of the day. Write down at least one thing that either drained or boosted your energy. You can note more if you'd like, but the goal is to become more aware of what affects your energy levels. Eventually, this simple practice can help you make small adjustments to improve your daily routines and tolook after your health and wellbeing better.
Words of Wisdom
I love how renowned Life Coach Tony Robbins put it when he says "Where focus goes, energy flows." This simple exercise helps you channel your focus to where it truly matters.
